6. Shabir appointed KP member in Irsa for three years
The federal government on Friday appointed Engineer Sahibzada Muhammad Shabir as the member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) for three years.
On the notification of his appointment as a member, Mr Shabir immediately assumed the charge of Irsa chairman for one year.
The federal government delayed the appointment of Mr Shabir, who was nominated by KP as its member on Sept 10
7. `Entire population in north Gaza` at risk of dying, UN chiefs warn
The unfolding situation in the northern Gaza Strip is `apocalyptic`, United Nations chiefs said on Friday, warning that its entire population was at `imminent risk` of death.
They said the entire Middle East region was now on a precipice and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

8. Japan enters into defence pact with European Union
Japan and the European Union announced a sweeping new security and defence partnership in Tokyo on Friday, which EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell hailed as a historic and `very timely` step.
Borrell and his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya unveiled the pact to develop cooperation on joint military drills, exchange of information related to the defence industry, and space security among other matters
9. Ceasefire prospects dwindle as Israel intensifies attacks
Prospects of a ceasefire between Israel and its foes Hamas and Hezbollah ran aground on Friday as Israeli air strikes killed atleast64 people in the Gaza Strip and battered Beirut`s southern suburbs.
US envoys had been working to secure ceasefires on both fronts ahead of the US presidential election next Tuesday
10. Dictionary chooses `brat` as its `Word of the Year`
THE Collins Dictionary has chosen `brat` as its `Word of the Year` for 2024.
Defined as someone with a `confident, independent and hedonistic attitude`, it has been inspired by Charli XCX.
What started as the name of her number one album has arguably grown into a cultural movement for some, with people adopting the brat way of life.
